Surfing in Mui Ne
Surfing in Mui Ne
Mui Ne isn’t a classic surf destination, but there are waves here, and for learning they’re excellent. Two spots with different characters, lessons year-round, board rental. Plus SUP surfing when you want to get on the water but the wind has dropped.
When to surf
Best time is November through April, while the northern wind is working. That’s when waves in Mui Ne are most consistent and regular. In summer the waves are weaker, but surfing is possible all year.
A note about Vietnamese waves: they’re short and break quickly. There are no long, mellow Bali-style waves here. But that’s exactly what makes them ideal for learning — easy to catch, easy to understand the mechanics, not scary to fall. Water near shore is very shallow.
Two spots
Malibu
Malibu waves are a morning thing. Before the wind kicks in, it's pure surfing: regular waves, suitable for beginners and intermediate riders. Once the wind picks up, the spot hands over to kiters — wind chops up the wave and surf is done.
Pros: clean waves, few people, plenty of space. Cons: the window is short — only until the wind starts.
Little Buddha
The spot opposite Ocean Vista / Sea Links, behind a breakwater. The big advantage — waves stay clean here all day, the wind doesn't disturb them. You can surf from morning to evening.
Downside — it's popular. In season the spot is almost always packed: lots of tourists and local surfers. Watch the safety.
Lessons
We work with beginners and with people improving their technique. The lesson starts on the beach: the instructor covers the basics, how to stand up, how to read a wave. Then the rest of the time is in the water.
Group, semi-private and private formats — 1.5 hours each. All gear — board, leash, rash guard — is included in the lesson. Bring a swimsuit and sunscreen.
No age minimum; for kids under 12 we recommend private lessons.
Board rental
For those who can already surf and want to ride on their own — board rental by the hour, day or week.
See prices for current rates.
SUP surfing
On days without wind or waves — we go SUP (stand-up paddleboarding). Group sea outings of 1.5–2 hours, calm and scenic. For something more interesting — private trips to nearby rivers and lakes, from 4 people.
SUP needs no experience and works for everyone, kids included.
